Southern Spelling Lesson
This mistake is something that makes me flinch every time I see it (which, living in Georgia/South Carolina, happens a lot).
It’s written y’all. Not ya’ll.
Y’all is a contraction of the words “you all.” In contractions in the English language, the apostrophe sits where letters have been removed, as in can’t (cannot), don’t (do not), etc. So DON’T BREAK UP THE ACTUAL COMPLETE WORD IN Y’ALL. Put the apostrophe between the y and the a to signify that the last two letters of “you” have been deleted.
